In the capacity of Art Director, I am a self-starter who is comfortable working autonomously with a great deal of experience working with construction, paint, and plaster departments. I can illustrate, run set previs, and quickly mount comprehensive and attractive presentations. I have designed both painted and photographic backings. I have administered large drafting rooms, and I have a large array of suppliers and fabricators I can call upon when needed.
I have worked in the capacity of the lead set designer on many large projects (i.e. Armageddon, West World & Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi) and have executed working drawings of very complex sets. I am comfortable designing sets to accommodate both mechanical effects, CG set extensions, and sets on Volume stages. I am a fast draftsman both in pencil and electronically, who turns out legible, attractive drawings. I am also a fast and precise digital modeler and can turn out concept and previs renderings quickly and attractively.
I prepared digital models of proposed ride environments for use by engineers and illustrators. Worked closely with multiple development departments including producers, writers, construction contractors, and engineers.
During preproduction, I designed substantial portions of the residential and the small town sections of the facility, totaling over twenty structures. I made production illustrations and presentation models of those structures and supervised seven set designers in the production of working drawings of those structures. After construction completion, I oversaw the production of digital models of the entire project for studio archives and interactive software development.
I ran the drafting room and participated in design development for the Universal Studio’s Art Department's rebuild of New York Street following a catastrophic fire. I also was responsible for training architects to design scenery (hired due to an acute labor shortage).
Worked as a Junior Set designer. Prepared working drawings and originated designs for themed commercial spaces build on top of a multilevel parking structure on the universal Studios Theme park facility.
Digital 3D modeling and Set Design instructor for Graduate Students in the Production Design MFA Program. This is a project-based class that includes stagecraft, working drawing preparation, location survey, and planning. Interterm classes include advanced modeling, texturing, rendering instruction, and the process of revamping existing sets and locations using real-world backlot locations.
Teaching basic stagecraft for incoming Junior Set Designers on behalf of our trade union. Class includes positioning sets on a soundstage, sound stage anatomy, designing for mechanical effects and pyrotechnics, digital visual effects, and sets using a Volume.
