Hotel Artemis is a near-future story about a high-tech, members-only, mob hospital in the penthouse of a derelict Art Deco L.A. hotel. The Artemis was built as a single, contiguous set. To further complicate matters the Artemis had a lot of mechanical effects, oddball wilding, and stunt rigging which all had to be accounted for. If that was not complicated enough, The Artemis’ bedrooms were each themed to a different vacation location popular in the thirties, yet we only built two of the rooms, so they had to change over. Each room’s bathroom tile was color coordinated, so we made our tile decoration removable, as well as the murals that decorated each room and gave it its theme. A similar system allowed us to replace the standing screens in each room, which was similarly themed. Did I mention that we had to do all that in two months? On a shoestring? Yeah. No problem. You want fries with that?
