Interior Hotel Artemis. Typical Room. We made two identical rooms, that could both be redressed as four different rooms. This way characters could exit one room and do a walk and talk to another room as a continuous shot.

Interior Hotel Artemis, Working set. Typical suite's door. I designed the locks to be made from wood and plastic as cast metal, but the SFX shop made them out of water-jet cut aluminum. Nice look, but the edges were sharper than intended.

Interior Hotel Artemis. Elevator lobby security gate detail. This had to operate on camera, SFX had to blow it up, and a mob had to storm it with a battering ram. Oh, and it had to look 'cool'. before, during, and after. Sure, easy, all in a day's work...

Hotel Artemis

Hotel Artemis is a near-future story about a high-tech, members-only, mob hospital in the penthouse of a derelict Art Deco L.A. hotel. The Artemis was built as a single, contiguous set. To further complicate matters the Artemis had a lot of mechanical effects, oddball wilding, and stunt rigging which all had to be accounted for. If that was not complicated enough, The Artemis’ bedrooms were each themed to a different vacation location popular in the thirties, yet we only built two of the rooms, so they had to change over. Each room’s bathroom tile was color coordinated, so we made our tile decoration removable, as well as the murals that decorated each room and gave it its theme. A similar system allowed us to replace the standing screens in each room, which was similarly themed. Did I mention that we had to do all that in two months? On a shoestring? Yeah. No problem. You want fries with that?
