The Mob Doctor was a short-lived linear TV show about a cardiologist whose education was funded by an organized crime family. The bulk of the show takes place in a state-of-the-art hospital serving the wealthy and well-insured of Chicago. A friend and I were asked to work remotely to develop the permanent sets since Chicago had no available set designers. We turned out previz models, renderings, and working drawings, which were emailed to Chicago. Design conferences were handled over Skype. That does not sound like much today but this was 2012. Nobody worked from home then except concept illustrators, and not all of those did either. Also, this was my first brush with a rendering plugin. There was no Keyshot, and V-Ray was something that was used with Maya or MAX. Aside from the venerable SUPodium, there was nothing for SketchUp. Prior to this, I had rendered my models in Vue and that was too involved a process to use for TV. Thanks to Shaderlight, these are the first renders I did for TV.
