Gods and Generals was a civil war epic shot on locations all over the tri-state area. It was my second job as an assistant art director. I roughed out a big chunk of Fredericksburg, which was shot at Harper’s Ferry, and Harper’s Ferry, which was shot at Hagerstown Maryland (don’t ask…). Back then (when dinosaurs roamed the earth), It was the job of set designers and art directors to design signage. I was one of the few at the time who had learned Adobe Illustrator. Thus, I found myself designing buildings, and the signage to go on them. A practice that continued for a few years until the I.A. graphic artists local was formed. I include a couple. By the way, I apologize for the quality of the images; we were so spread out it was almost impossible to get pictures of my sets as they shot. I was a hundred miles away, prepping, by the time a set was photo-worthy. The images are screen grabs from the video (and I do mean video. Loooong time ago.) I’ll have to get onto Netflix and collect some replacements. Someday…
