Exterior Rossmore Wildlife Park. Gate and ticket booth preview. Modeled in SketchUp Photomatch. I seldom use the photogrammetry features in SketchUp, but this turned out to be a slam dunk and worked well.

We Bought a Zoo

We Bought a Zoo was a story (based on actual events) about a man who…well…bought a zoo. There was a lot of steel structure with wood cladding and a lot of little rustic structures. There were also a lot of rocks, which had to bear the weight of our animals. Wild animals never listened to the ADs, and climbed on anything they wanted, so everything had to be strong. This was the last transitional project I worked on during my conversion from analog to digital drafting. I started off as an analog draughtsman and, reluctantly, my bosses (deeply suspicious of “characterless” CAD drawings), let me do some 3d previz models and change them into digital drawings. Before I knew it that was all I was doing. I really cleaned up on all the rocks for the animal enclosures. Sectioning a 3d model is a lot easier than working those dozens of sections by hand. Been there. Done that. No. Thanks.
