Hostiles Is a western shot in Santa Fe New Mexico. My job was the design of Fort Berringer, an internment camp for hostile Indians. At one end we had the parade ground, with barracks and officer’s quarters, on the other (500 feet away) we had the internment facility. The entire fort was designed digitally and versions spun off to construction and VFX. Both the main character’s quarters and the internment compound had functional interiors. We made the adobe walls of our buildings with actual adobe bricks. Construction sawed them in half and attached them to flats with linoleum mastic (so the load of 100,000 bricks went twice as far). Needless to say, not many wild walls on that set.
